New Google Maps update: Here are its new features

Google on Tuesday announced several new features that are coming to the Google Maps app. The coolest one will help you find your way through indoor spaces like airports, malls, and train stations using augmented reality.

Update#1:Navigate indoors with Live View

Google Maps is now a lot more useful if you’re traveling through an airport or shopping mall -- and it will even tell you where your gate is when it’s time to board or which store has the merchandise you’re looking for. The app’s new “Live View AR” feature overlays digital guide indicators on top of what you would normally see in the real world, using your phone’s camera to see how distinct objects relate to each other in three-dimensional space.

Google Maps’ new feature, Live View, will guide you through airports and to your terminal, upcoming connections, and baggage claim In case you still get confused, just open Google Maps on your phone and access the escalators or elevators icon (it looks like an elevator or escalator). Click it and Google Maps will compare your current location to where you need to go. It’s as easy as that.

update#2:Plan ahead with more information about weather and air quality

Get real-time weather information at your fingertips with this handy new feature for Google Maps on Android phones and tablets. With the new weather layer, you can quickly see the current and forecasted temperature and weather conditions in an area — so you'll never get caught in the rain without an umbrella. And the new air quality layer shows you how healthy (or unhealthy) the air is — information that's especially helpful if you have allergies or are in a smoggy or fire-prone area. The weather layer will be available globally and the air quality layer will launch in Australia, India, and the U.S., with more countries to come.

Google Maps app will start directing drivers along routes estimated to generate the lowest carbon emissions based on traffic, slopes, and other factors, the company announced on Tuesday.

It’s never been easier to get around without a car in the city. With Google Maps, just type in your current location, where you want to go, and we’ll give you a variety of ways to get there. We know that many people are interested in ways to get around that also have less impact on the environment. Now in Google Maps for Android, when you have approximately the same ETA for different walking or public transit directions, you'll see an option called "Comparison." It will let you compare how much CO2 was avoided by going one way versus another. You can easily toggle

When Google calculates your route, google's goal is to find the one that’s fastest for you. However, when you’re traveling around town and want to reduce your impact on the environment, google suggests other routes if they can get you there in roughly the same amount of time. With this update, Google will surface an option for you to select a more eco-friendly or low-emission route if it gets you there within the same travel time as another option. Using advanced machine learning models, Maps will automatically prioritize your preferred modes  — and even boost modes that are popular in your city

Update#3:New Grocery Pickup on Maps

Google Maps will now display information about stores that provide delivery and curbside pickup services, making it easy to compare nearby options. How it works ›› If a store provides curbside pickup or delivery service in your area, the Business Profile may display additional information, including whether the service is available for certain products or if they charge fees.
