The Indian Government launched the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' scheme in 2019. As many as 32 states and UTs have so far implemented the 'One Nation One Ration Card' plan which seeks to give over 80 crore beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). Through the ONOR scheme, the beneficiary can get ration at any ration shop across the country. The idea of this scheme is to ensure all beneficiaries can easily get their ration from any PDS shop without much effort
The 'One Nation, One Ration Card' scheme is aimed at the migrant population who are mainly outside of their own state. Many migrants face difficulty in procuring ration from their own state because they do not have a ration card of that state, and because other states are less aware of this scheme.
Eligibility of one nation one ration will be targeted to bring uniformity across the country. The scheme aims at transferring food grains to below poverty line (BPL) families to bridge the gap in effective price between the minimum support price (MSP) and market prices, by providing subsidy at 42% of the difference. The scheme is targeted at 6 crore BPL households, who have ration cards across the country.
Eligibility of one nation one ration is applicable to both urban and rural areas. The scheme of one nation one ration will benefit 2 crore (20 million) families, approximately 25 crore (250 million people). The beneficiaries will be identified on the basis of their Aadhar based identification through the electronic point of sale (PoS) device.
