Starlink - Connecting the World to Internet

 Whats is Starlink?

Built by the founder of the private spaceflight company SpaceX and its CEO and Lead Designer, Starlink includes a network of satellites in orbit around Earth, set to provide high-speed Internet access. Created by Elon Musk, Starlink satellites are designed to help cover the planet with a broad range of broadband capabilities.

Starlink is now delivering initial beta service both domestically and internationally and will continue expansion to near-global coverage of the populated world in 2021. During this beta period, customers may experience speeds that range from 50 Mbit/s to 150 Mbit/s as a result of the ongoing software and hardware development and test cycles.

Starlink satellites are now receiving, processing, and transmitting data to provide global coverage. The network is scheduled to reach global completion in 2021. During the beta phase of the service, internet speeds of 50Mb/s to 150Mb/s are common to most locations, depending on location, time of day, and other conditions. With the upcoming launch of our second cluster of O3b satellites, Starlink's capabilities will increase substantially.

Easy to set up:

Starlink is a satellite-based Wi-Fi system that beams Wi-Fi to your backyard, anywhere you can see the sky. Your Starlink kit includes everything you need to get online at your favorite backyard spots including the Starlink modem, mounting tripod, and power supply. Download the Starlink App for free on your phone or tablet device to plan and place your installation.

Ideal for rural and remote communities:

With its wireless and mesh networking capabilities, Starlink is ideally suited for areas where infrastructure has been historically limited. Broadband internet that is reliable and fast can transform the local economy by bringing more connection to communities, more life to schools, easier communication for families, and better access to information for everyone.

Is Starlink feasible in India?

Starlink is a satellite-based broadband solution offering high-speed data connection anywhere in the world. It can benefit people in congested metros, remote villages, and even places underground. In India, it means that even people in the remote terrains of Leh or Ladakh can benefit from this service.

What is the cost of a Starlink subscription in India?

Starlink does not have any tie-ups with local payment services in India. Hence all the payments you make will be in US dollars. The payments can be made using a credit card, debit card as well as Apple Pay. The subscriptions charges are as below:

  • Upfront deposit - $99. This will be deducted from the monthly subscription fee once the connection is activated. This is a refundable deposit that will be refunded, in case, Starlink isn’t able to provide services in your area.
  • Monthly subscription fee - $99. This includes unlimited data access
  • Hardware cost - $499 + shipping. The Starlink kit includes an antenna similar to DTH antennas installed all around us, a router, a power supply, and a mount.
